This is something that is almost certainly not going to happen – but  wouldn’t it be great if it did? Although a lot of people in the US are talking about it.

Instead of Biden battling on why not persuade him step down for ‘health reasons’ and be replaced by the Vice President.

Kamal Harris has been written off by many, but recent speeches and interviews suggest she is actually a much better performer than either Trump or Biden.

A female opponent would also bring out all of Trump’s worst rhetoric.

Admittedly, the prospect of a female President will enrage the patriarchic Right and the touch of colour will outrage the racists.

Yet polls consistently show the American voters would prefer someone else other than the current two candidates. There aren’t many obvious choices though so someone who could be an instant President might have lots of advantages and carry the authority of incumbency.

Indeed, it’s a sort of far out variation on Dave, the 1993 American political comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman,and starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver. Frank Langella, Kevin Dunn, Laura Linney, Ving Rhames, Charles Grodin, and Ben Kingsley appear in supporting roles.

Dave was a terrific box office success. Trump v Harris might be the same.

And, as ridiculous as it might seem it would have to be better than the current situation. Also, much easier than finding another candidate for the Democrats just out from the election.
