Around the world this week pundits will be reprising Tacitus’ comment – “They made a desert and called it peace”
He was paraphrasing Galgacus, the chieftain of the Caledonian Confederacy chieftain who fought the Roman army of Gnaeus Julius Agricola at the Battle of Mons Graupius in northern Scotland.
A couple of millennia later is the Galgacus comment still apt? We will see.
And, of course, it might all be undermined by either Bibi or the far right in the Knesset. Perhaps even both.
