Donnald Trump recently took to Truth Social to claim his “REAL POLL NUMBERS” are “THE HIGHEST THEY HAVE EVER BEEN” but failed to cite any actual survey to support his claim.
The reality is rather different. According to G. Elliott Morris’ latest analyses he is even deeper underwater.
53% of Americans see grounds to impeach Trump and respondents most name corruption and abuse of power as his main offences.
One in five say the war in Iran is impeachment worth although 59% of Americans support the deal to end the war with Iran while 24% oppose. Only 18% say the US has achieved its goals while 46% say the US should never have gone to war and 61% are not confident the deal will stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
What they think about what might have been if Trump had not trashed the deal Obama negotiated with Iran was not probed. But obviously there would not have been the billions in spending, the spiralling domestic costs and thousands of deaths.
As for Trump’s job approval Morris finds that 37% of Americans approve Trump’s job performance while 60% disapprove.
On a generic ballot Democrats lead Republicans 50% to 43% among registered voters and 48% to 42% among all adults. Juist 8% say things are going well.
With Trump’s worst issue – prices and inflation – Trump’s net approval is minus 46%. 36% of Americans cite prices as the single most important problem facing the country.
50% say things are going poorly and major disruptive changes are needed to get the country back on track. With the midterms in play Democrats lead Republicans on eight of the 12 issues Morriss tracks – prices, job, health care and elections and democracy.
As for who is benefiting under the Trump regime 63% of Americans say the wealthy and large corporations have benefitted more than average Americans from Trump’s policies. Just 8% say average Americans have come out ahead.
Meanwhile, The Guardian reports that dozens of former Israeli security commanders have demanded urgent action to stop “almost daily” attacks on Palestinians. In a public letter to the country’s current military chief they warned that failure to tackle “Jewish terrorism” poses an existential threat.
This month Israeli settlers and police have killed 10 Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank, including brothers aged five and seven and their parents who were all shot in the head as the family returned from a Ramadan shopping trip.
“We are no longer talking about a handful of lawbreaking hooligans. This is organised activity, which sometimes includes those wearing uniforms, who shoot at innocent people and burn the property and homes of civilians,” the letter said.
You can read the full letter below and ponder the pile on you would suffer in Australia if you were brave enough to make similar statements.
The Blog is taking a break for a few weeks.
